I have a friend who is a Holacost survivor.

When she was a young girl in the camp, a Nazi soldier asked if anyone knew how to knit. She raised her hand.

He took her to a factory where some knitting needles were made. He gave her wool, and she knitted socks. She saved whatever was left over, and knitted socks for herself and everyone else in her barrack.

She SWEARS that knitting socks is what saved her life.
